Face of Nation : Several people were feared drowned after a tourist boat ferrying them capsized in Godavari river in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
Sources said a tourist boat, ‘Royal Vasista’, ferrying around 61 passengers was en route to Papikondalu from Gandi Pochamma temple when the boat capsized in the river near Kacchuluru of Devipatnam.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to trace the passengers. Sources said there were about 60 people, including 11 crew members, in the boat run by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. The river has been in spate for the past few days with over 5.13 lakh cusecs of floodwater.
