‘One of the Proudest days of my life’ – LEITRIM’S Zak Moradi

Face of Nation : An end-to-end clash finished 2-23 to 2-22 at GAA Headquarters after extra time and speaking to RTE, Moradi couldn’t hide his delight, saying: “Other counties would probably look down at us.

“A lot of lads on the Leitrim hurling team have the same heart and the same passion as Kilkenny and Cork.

“All these lads are training three and four times a week and with matches – they work and you know, it’s just the commitment.

“This is our All-Ireland you know. We’ll celebrate it for the next week or two.

“This is our All-Ireland – this is what we train all year round for and we eventually done it so it’s one of the proudest days of my life today.”

Moradi, 26, was born in Iraq and moved to Ireland when he was 11.

He had little English when he arrived and used GAA training as way of socialising and developing.

The corner forward slotted over a point from play after coming on with the game drawing to a close to help his adopted county win their first ever national title.

Leitrim eventually got the better of a game Lancashire side with the ever reliable Gavin O’Hagan slotting over a couple of points in extra time to give them a five point lead with the additional time almost up.

And, despite a late Lancashire fight back, the Lory Meagher Cup will be heading west this season while the losers endure heartbreak for the second consecutive season.
