Face of Nation : Another North Atlantic right whale has been found dead — bringing the total up to nine whales found dead in Canadian waters so far this year.
According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the whale was sighted on Sunday off eastern Cape Breton. The department said it will try to retrieve it and conduct a necropsy on Monday.
“Efforts to rescue the entangled whales will continue once weather permits,” Fisheries and Oceans said in a tweet. Ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear have been identified or suspected in the deaths of other North Atlantic right whales in recent years.
