Face of Nation : Earlier, Prime Minister Modi introduced President Trump to the Indian-Americans at the mega event as a very “special person” whose presence at the event signals India has a true friend at the White House.
The two leaders, like-minded nationalists fond of fiery rallies and skeptical of traditional media, heaped praise on each other in an unusual joint appearance inside a football stadium in Houston. “Today, we are witnessing a new history and a new chemistry in the making”, Modi told the crowd.
Mr Modi, however, is expected to face a frostier reception at this week’s UN General Assembly, where he may face criticism over tensions in Indian-administered Kashmir. Hailing the impressive show of unity between India and the US at the mega “Howdy Modi!” event in Houston, Nikki Haley, former Indian-American US ambassador to the UN, said that the “great” partnership between the two countries has only strengthened.
Nikki Haley, who was the first-ever Indian-American to have served any presidential Cabinet, in a tweet on Sunday praised the partnership between India and the US. “The US and India have a great partnership and it has only strengthened with the friendship of @realDonaldTrump and @narendramodi,” she said.
She also re-tweeted President Trump’s tweet, “The USA loves India!” The daughter of Indian immigrants from Punjab, Nikki Haley has always been an advocate of the India-US relationship. She has also served as the governor of South Carolina state.
