Lisa Wilkinson addresses rumours about fight with Karl at the Logies

Face of Nation : Lisa Wilkinson has addressed the rumours that she had an awkward run-in with former Today Show co-host, Karl Stefanovic, while at this year’s Logies awards.

In a short segment at the beginning of The Sunday Project, Wilkinson set the record straight after a number of magazines reported that she had a fight with Stefanovic on the red carpet.

The subject was broached during a segment on the types of sensationalised stories being reported about Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

Project panellist, Susie Youssef, mocked these tabloids by posing as a spokesperson for made up publication, No Idea Magazine.

“In the next issue we will be revealing what Lisa said to Karl Stefanovic on the Logies red carpet and how she made co-star Hamish Macdonald cry during a Logies dress fitting,” Youssef joked.

In the segment, Lisa claims those types of magazines and click-bait websites are about outlandish entertainment rather than factual news.

Before putting the rumours about her and Karl to bed, Lisa did take a cheeky swipe at her former co-star.

“So, what did you say to Karl on the red carpet?” Macdonald asked Wilkinson. “I told him to go f**k himself,” she replied.

After laughing about the joke with her co-hosts, Wilkinson eventually addressed the rumours, claiming there was no altercation between her and Stefanovic.

“I was standing at the Woollies check-out the other night and there is a couple of those magazines reporting on the Logies,” she said. “Apparently Karl and I had a fight on the red carpet, which is completely untrue.”

Wilkinson said the seeing the story reminded her of how “sympathetic” the public should be to Kate and Meghan when these types of stories are written about them.

“We don’t know the truth and all the magazines and websites do is they get bad photos of people and write a narrative around it and people click on it,” she said.

It marked the first time in 15 years that the 44-year-old former Gold Logie winner wouldn’t have to be up in the early hours of the morning following the awards.

“It’s been a wonderful year as it always is,” he told Leila McKinnon on Channel 9’s coverage. “This is the first time in 15 years I’ve been a Logies where I don’t have to get up at 3.30am in the morning. It’s like, oh, what?

“This is the more responsible Stefanovic now. Looking to be more conservative. I’ll be at the gym at 3.30 followed by the library. You know, that’s the sort of stuff I have come to expect for myself these days.”

Stefanovic will return to Channel 9 later this year with his show This Time Next Year, however the network is yet to release an air date.
