Face of Nation : Topless men and woman aren’t often spotted on the streets of the Melbourne CBD in the crisp air of early October. But hundreds of activists stripped down to their knickers – and in some case less – and marched through the city on Saturday to show they care about climate change.
The Extinction Rebellion “nudie parade” was aimed at symbolising the world’s vulnerability to the phenomenon and the need for leaders to take greater action to address it. It comes after a week of protests by the group across the nation.
Many participants wrote messages on their bodies, from “respect existence, respect resistance” to “business as usual kills”. Nobody was arrested at the event, Victoria Police have confirmed.
Dozens of protesters were arrested in Melbourne on Thursday after locking themselves together to block a city intersection. Further peaceful arrests are expected on the last day of the group’s activism on Sunday.
