Face of Nation : Authorities are confident no lives will be lost in bushfires that have razed ten homes on the Gold Coast and are threatening more. Residents of Binna Burra have been ordered to evacuate immediately as the large and dangerous fire is fanned by strong and gusty westerly winds.

“The important message at this stage is we are confident of no loss of life which is our number one focus,” he told AAP on Saturday.”I’m really proud of my community for the way they have responded.

“For the most part people have been proactive in recognising the importance of their ensuring their safety first.” The Binna Burra fire is the biggest threat in the state on Saturday and QFES warns more homes may be lost.

“If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave immediately if it is clear to do so,” QFES warns. “If you cannot leave, identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.”

On Saturday morning the fire was moving in an easterly direction towards Binna Burra Road. QFES is warning power, water, and mobile phone services may be lost and road conditions may become very dangerous. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.
