Scotland is braced for further weather problems

Face of Nation : Scotland is braced for further weather problems, with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning, active from 12:00, saying conditions could cause some transport disruption and flooding.

The warning applies to much of Scotland and the northern half of England. Heavy rain on Saturday had already brought some localised flooding to areas including Kilbarchan in Renfrewshire. Train services through Falkirk Grahamston were halted after the track was submerged under water.

Engineers inspected the line and trains were allowed back onto the route under a speed restriction at about 17:30. Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. Some communities might become cut off if roads flood and power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
