Face of Nation : Bindi Irwin has revealed the sweet touches she is planning for her wedding that will honour her crocodile hunter dad Steve. The 21-year-old got engaged to her boyfriend of six years after he proposed on her birthday earlier this week. Chandler Powell surprised the birthday girl on Wednesday when he got down on one knee at Australia Zoo in Queensland.
Images from the precious moment were captured by Bindi’s award-winning wildlife photographer brother Robert. She shared the gorgeous images with her Instagram followers, captioning the post: “The most beautiful surprise. Chandler and Robert worked together to capture the moment I said ‘YES’.
“We were in the gardens of Australia Zoo and it was beyond perfect. “I never even knew Robert was there photographing and I’ll always be grateful to have these special memories of the most amazing day of my life.”
While it was the happiest day of her life, the moment was also bittersweet for Bindi, who was just eight years old when her famous dad tragically died. Speaking to the Sunshine Coast Daily in her first interview since the engagement, she said: “I do really wish that dad was here to be able to celebrate with us as a family.
“I think in some ways he is and his spirit lives on in everything that we do, and I always feel closest to dad here at Australia Zoo.” As part of her wedding plans, Bindi hopes to have brother Robert, 15, walk her down the aisle in place of her dad, and her mum Terri is expected to step in for Steve for the traditional father-daughter dance’.
