Murdered teen’s parents win fight to stay at home with ‘memorial tree’

Face of Nation : An elderly couple that faced the unwelcome prospect of having to move out of the home where their murdered daughter’s memorial tree stands, have had a big win.
Brian and Carmel Russell’s 17-year-old daughter Natalie was murdered by serial killer Paul Denyer in Frankston, in Melbourne’s south-east, in 1993.
She was attacked and killed as she walked home from school through a local golf course. Just after they lost her, Brian and Carmel planted a tree in their back yard.

They dubbed it Nat’s Tree in her memory. But as A Current Affair reported last month, the couple were staring down the barrel of having to move out of their family-owned home, due to health and financial struggles.
But the community and family rallied around the couple, helping them spruce the home up for sale and following A Current Affair’s report came some good news. Local real estate agent Ash Marton was able to find a buyer who was willing to allow Brian and Carmel to stay as long as they like.

On behalf of himself and his wife, Brian thanked everybody for their support – and told A Current Affair he thought there might have been a little intervention from on high.
“I think our daughter might’ve had something to do with it,” he said.
