Gatwick Airport flights resumed after ‘systems issue’ grounded planes for two hours

Face of Nation : A Gatwick spokesperson said: “Due to an air traffic control systems issue in Gatwick’s control tower, flights were suspended between 17.08 and 19.00.

Flights have resumed, but passengers are advised to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport as we return to full operations.”

Although flights are up and running, it is likely to be some time before the airport clears the backlog of flights – with some flights on Gatwick’s departure and arrival boards showing delays of almost four hours.

The airport diverted some inbound flights to other airports.

People took to social media to say they had been left on the tarmac at airports not just in London, but elsewhere, as their planes remained grounded due to the disruption.
