Face of Nation : A boat with 60 passengers capsized in the Godavari river at Kacchuluru village of Devipatnam mandal in East Godavari district on Sunday afternoon. According to a release from the State Disaster Management department, 10 of the drowned swam safely to the bank and remaining are believed to have been missing from the boat.The disaster management department sent two SDRF and NDRF teams each to the incident spot. The SDRF has 40 personnel while the NDRF has 30 personnel.
According to the sources, the on-board people of the boat named Royal Vashista travelling in the boat amid Papikondalu, a famous spot in the district.
Tourism Minister Avanthi Srinivasa Rao said “I am rushing to the spot. I am negotiating with Indian Navy and ONGC at Rajahmundry to take their help like choppers etc to rescue.”
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also alerted to the district administration to immediately start the rescue and rehabilitation for the kin and the victims. The sources said that Jagan Mohan Reddy is also scheduled to visit the spot on Monday. Due to the recent rains in the catchment areas of the river, the inflow and outflow of the Godavari is high for the last few weeks.
