Face of Nation :  Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi’s younger brother Nehal Modi. He is a Belgian national who fronted Nirav Modi’s business in Europe and the United States (US) as well.

Earlier this year enforcement directorate (ED) had requested the Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice against Nehal for his role in helping Nirav Modi.

It may be noted that the fugitive Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are prime accused in nearly USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and money laundering case. Last month Nirav Modi was remanded to judicial custody until September 19, 2019.

During Westminster Magistrates’ Court’s remand hearing through videolink from Wandsworth prison, the judge extended Nirav Modi’s remand till September 19. Uniformed Scotland Yard officers arrested Modi on an extradition warrant on March 19 and since then he has been in prison.

A fortnight back Interpol officials were here in India. Indian Government wanted that they should immediately issue Red Corner Notice against those who are involved in financial crime. One of them is Nehal Modi, based out of New York city and is a director of a US company, Firestar Diamonds. There are allegations that the money which was received through LoUs were later transferred into Ithaca Trust, which is based in New York and then real estate was purchased across the globe.
