Face of Nation : The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre and other parties on a bunch of public interest litigations (PILs). The Supreme Court said a five-judge constitution bench will hear all the petitions challenging abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

Besides challenging the constitutionality of the Modi government’s move on Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh respectively, the petitioners also sought removal of restrictions in the state. There has been a communication blockade in Jammu and Kashmir.

The petitioners who have challenged scrapping of special status under Article 370 include advocate ML Sharma, bureaucrat-turned-politician Shah Faesal, former JNU student leader Shehla Rashid, and Radha Kumar, the former interlocutor in Jammu and Kashmir.

National Conference MPs Mohd Akbar Lone and Justice (rtd) Hasnain Masoodi have challenged the changes made in the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre.
