Face of Nation : Asian champion Amit Panghal assured India of a World Championship medal after advancing into the semifinals. In the 52kg category, Panghal defeated Filipino Carlo Paalam 4-1 in an intensely fought bout.
Eyeing the medal, both the boxers fought aggressively, but it was the Indian who prevailed in the end. Panghal, who had defeated Paalam in the semifinal of the Asian Games in Jakarta last year, ensured there was no slip-up and he once again tamed the opponent, riding on his experience.
Paalam came with a strategy to counter-attack but could not execute it as Panghal with his trademark pace dominated the bout. The Indian was the quicker of the two and his punches landed accurately in the intense battle.
